The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has requested the presence of Subomi and Wahab, the sons of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya, for questioning regarding their alleged mistreatment of the naira.
Recent reports have highlighted a video showing the Okoya brothers handling the naira in a questionable manner, prompting public concern.
The police officer seen in the video has also been identified and taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force.
An activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, posted on his Facebook page on Saturday, saying:
“The Okoya sons are above the law. A country of two laws — one for the poor and the other for the rich.”
Despite public outcry on social media demanding swift action, the EFCC has taken steps to address the situation. The brothers have been asked to appear before the head of the Special Operations team at the EFCC office in Lagos for interrogation on Monday, January 13, 2025, as outlined in the invitation signed by Michael Wetkas, the acting director of the EFCC’s Lagos Directorate.
