Brazilian superstar Neymar has revealed that his ex-Paris Saint-Germain colleague Kylian Mbappé felt envious after Lionel Messi joined the team in August 2021. Messi’s move to PSG from Barcelona was on a free transfer.
During a podcast with fellow Brazilian Romário, Neymar confessed that inflated egos impacted their performance in crucial games at the French club.
Responding to Romário’s question about whether Mbappé, now at Real Madrid, was a nuisance, Neymar, 32, made these remarks.
“No, he is not. I have my issues with him, we had a little fight, but he was fundamental for us when he arrived. I used to call him ‘Golden Boy,’” Neymar said.
“I always played with him, said he was going to be one of the best. I always helped him, talked to him, he came to my place, and we had dinner together.
“We had some good years of partnership, but after Messi came, he was a little jealous. He didn’t want to share me with anyone. And then there were some fights and a change in behaviour.”
Mbappé made the switch from Monaco to PSG in 2017, the same year Neymar moved from Barcelona to the Parc des Princes in one of the biggest transfers in football history.
