TikTok has announced that it is working to restore services in collaboration with its service providers, citing assurance from former President Donald Trump. The social media platform, which boasts over 170 million U.S. users and supports over 7 million small businesses, released the following statement:
“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”
The statement underscores TikTok’s dedication to protecting its platform under the First Amendment while pushing back against “arbitrary censorship.” TikTok emphasized its role as a crucial tool for businesses and creators, highlighting the significant economic and cultural impact it has in the United States.
“It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
The platform’s fate has been a hot topic in U.S. politics, with prior concerns about data security and foreign ownership leading to calls for its ban. This statement suggests progress toward resolving these issues, with TikTok committing to finding a sustainable path forward.
