Nigerian artist Ycee has urged for the prohibition of Point of Sale (POS) machines within the nation following a troubling incident in which he lost a substantial amount of money in 2024.
The artist, whose full name is Oludemilade Martin Alejo, disclosed the particulars of the incident via his Instagram story.
In the footage, he detailed that N2.7 million was illicitly withdrawn from his bank account in November 2024. As per Ycee’s account, this was not an isolated occurrence, as he had previously experienced similar theft.
Ycee revealed that the unauthorized withdrawals were executed using his ATM card, culminating in a total loss of N2.7 million across three separate transactions.
The initial withdrawal amounted to N1 million, succeeded by another N1 million, and then N700,000. He further emphasized that the funds were not taken from an ATM, but were instead accessed through a POS machine.
The artist voiced his dissatisfaction, noting that his financial institution had yet to furnish an explanation for the missing funds or proffer any remedial action.
Ycee also expressed apprehensions regarding the inadequate security measures surrounding POS transactions, contending that had the theft transpired at an ATM, it would have been recorded by surveillance cameras.
In response to his ordeal, Ycee advocated for a comprehensive ban on POS machines nationwide, implying that numerous others may have fallen prey to comparable criminal activities.
