Over four months after his tragic fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina, new details surrounding Liam Payne’s passing have emerged.
According to a press release from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office on February 25, Payne had a blood alcohol level (BAC) of 0.27 percent at the time of his death—more than three times the United States’ legal driving limit of 0.08 percent.
Medical experts classify this level of intoxication as severe, often causing mental confusion, difficulty walking, and nausea.
Additionally, toxicology results previously indicated that Payne had alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system. However, the exact amounts were not disclosed.
Authorities concluded that Payne was likely not fully conscious during his fatal fall from his hotel balcony on October 16, 2024. The autopsy confirmed that he suffered 25 injuries, consistent with a high-impact fall, with fatal head injuries and internal hemorrhaging.
“This situation would also rule out the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act on the part of the victim,” the prosecutor’s office stated in November, adding that Payne’s condition at the time meant he was unaware of his actions.
The investigation’s findings put an end to speculation about his tragic passing, confirming that the severe injuries sustained from the fall were the direct cause of his death.
