Nigerian actress Gbemisola Scarlet Gomez (formerly Gbemisola Scarlet Shotade) has been making waves in the entertainment industry, but her journey started long before she became a household name.
Best known for her lead role in the Showmax Original telenovela series “Wura,” Scarlet’s path to acting wasn’t planned.
In an exclusive interview, she opens up about how she transitioned from beauty pageants to film, met her husband in a music studio, and earned her first million at just 15 years old.
The Meaning Behind the Name ‘Scarlet’
While many assume Scarlet is a stage name, she clarifies that it was actually given to her by her mother.
“I always say my mom wanted to show off that she studied English, so she gave me an English name. But I thank God she did because it’s cute, and I didn’t have to look for a stage name.”
From Beauty Pageants to Acting
Scarlet didn’t initially set out to be an actress. She had dreams of becoming a newscaster or TV presenter. However, after losing her father at age 8, she felt the need to contribute financially.
“I asked myself, ‘What can I do to help?’ That’s how I got into modeling and pageants. But once I stumbled into acting, I fell in love with it.”
Earning Her First Million at 15
Scarlet’s career in pageantry was lucrative, and she made her first million naira at just 15 years old.
“I gave everything to my mom. That was the whole point—I wanted to help. We were raised to be content, so I lacked nothing as a child. If I needed anything, I knew I could always go to her.”
Giving Back and Staying Grounded
Until her early 20s, Scarlet continued to give all her earnings to her mother. She credits her upbringing for teaching her the value of hard work and family support.
Scarlet Gomez’s story is a testament to resilience, ambition, and the power of family. Today, she stands as one of Nollywood’s rising stars, proving that hard work and passion always pay off.
