Nigerian football star Odion Ighalo has opened up about his unwavering commitment to tithing. He has faithfully given a portion of his earnings to God since 2005, when he received his first professional salary.
In a recent interview with Rasheedat Ajibade on Ash Christ TV, the former Manchester United striker recalled his humble beginnings. He shared that his first paycheck was N15,000, and he was inspired by his pastor’s teachings on tithing to start giving.
“My first salary was in 2005 as a footballer. It was N15,000, and because my pastor taught me about tithing, I have been paying until today. I haven’t missed paying tithe,” Ighalo stated.
The Al-Wehda forward, known for his strong Christian faith, began his career at Prime FC and Julius Berger before moving to Lyn Oslo in 2007. Beyond football, Ighalo has dedicated part of his earnings to charity, supporting underprivileged children, schools, and widows in Nigeria.
Ighalo, a father of three—two sons and a daughter, was previously married to Sonia Adesuwa, but their marriage ended in divorce in 2022 after separating in 2019.
