On January 28, 2025, Dr. Tamaryn Green Nxumalo embraced motherhood with the birth of her baby girl. In an exclusive interview with TRUELOVE, she opened up about the highs and lows of pregnancy, adjusting to life as a new mom, and the support system that has helped her navigate this new chapter.

Pregnancy Challenges & Adjustments

Dr. Tamaryn recalled the first trimester as the most difficult, marked by morning sickness, nausea, and unexpected body changes.

“The first trimester definitely had its challenges… I experienced a lot of nausea, and my body changed in ways I never expected—aches, changes in my breasts, just things you wouldn’t think of.”

Despite the discomfort, she maintained her routine, making mindful adjustments.

“Other than cutting out alcohol completely, I made a point of living my life to the fullest—training daily, working, and keeping a normal routine as much as possible.”

Emotional Rollercoaster of Motherhood

Becoming a mom came with hormonal shifts that triggered emotional moments.

“You cry for no specific reason—sometimes tears of joy, sometimes sadness. I remember the first week, I would just pray for my baby and start crying, realizing she’s actually here, she’s real.”

Breastfeeding was another challenge, with pain and self-doubt creeping in.

“If I’m struggling and she doesn’t want to feed properly, and my nipples are sore, I’m so hard on myself. There’s so much information online, but at the end of the day, you have to figure out your baby.”

Support System & Self-Care

Dr. Tamaryn credited her mother, husband, sister, and online community for their support. She also highlighted the importance of self-care.

“Dressing up is part of who I am. It boosts confidence and helps with mental health, especially after an emotional or tough day.”

She and her husband, businessman Ze Nxumalo, continue to prioritize their relationship, making time for date nights despite their new roles as parents.

Their baby’s arrival was celebrated across three provinces—Johannesburg, KwaZulu-Natal, and Paarl—allowing family and friends from different regions to share in the joy.

As she embraces motherhood, Dr. Tamaryn is determined to stay true to herself, balancing parenting with personal fulfillment.
