Meghan Markle Faces Backlash Over Use of HRH Title on Gift Card Despite 2020 Royal Exit Agreement

Meghan Markle is under renewed scrutiny after a podcast interview revealed she used the HRH (Her Royal Highness) title on a gift card, despite an agreement made in 2020 with the late Queen Elizabeth II to no longer actively use royal styling after stepping down from official duties with Prince Harry.

During an episode of the Jamie Kern Lima podcast, a card reading “with the compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex” was shown alongside a homemade gift basket reportedly sent by Meghan.

While no legal ban exists on using the HRH title, Harry and Meghan publicly stated they would cease its use after “Megxit”. The use of the title—even informally—has sparked public criticism and raised questions about whether the couple is honoring their royal exit terms.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes has denied any commercial use of the title, clarifying that the card was likely shared “before the launch of As Ever”, Meghan’s new brand. Insiders also claimed the HRH styling is only used privately among friends, not in public or professional settings.

Meghan also opened up in the podcast about her relationship with Harry, calling their post-royal life a time of “honeymoon feeling”, after escaping the pressures of royal life and media scrutiny.
