Pope Francis: Serie A suspends Easter Monday matches

Serie A, Pope Francis

All football matches in the Italian league that were scheduled for Easter Monday have been officially postponed due to the passing of Pope Francis at the age of 88, as confirmed by the governing body of Serie A.

Competitions in Serie A, B, C, and the Primavera division have been deferred in accordance with a national period of mourning.

The fixtures that are impacted include Torino vs Udinese, Cagliari vs Fiorentina, Genoa vs Lazio, and Parma vs Juventus, all of which are part of the 33rd round of the Serie A schedule.

The Italian Football Federation has not yet disclosed when the postponed matches will be rescheduled.

Nonetheless, all games are required to be completed prior to the league’s final matchday on May 25, 2025.

Six Serie A matches had already occurred over the Easter weekend, featuring notable outcomes such as Bologna’s 1-0 victory over Inter and Atalanta’s narrow triumph against Milan.

As the season approaches a pivotal phase, the league now confronts a logistical dilemma in identifying appropriate time slots to accommodate the rescheduled fixtures.
