US rapper Taymor McIntyre, known by his stage name Tay-K, has been convicted of murder for the second time.
A jury found him guilty of fatally shooting Mark Anthony Saldivar in San Antonio. Tay-K could face life in prison with the possibility of parole for the 2017 murder.
This conviction comes while Tay-K was already serving a 55-year jail term for another fatal shooting. Prosecutors argued that he shot Saldivar during a robbery attempt.
However, Tay-K’s lawyers criticized the police investigation, suggesting it relied too heavily on witness statements from individuals in the car during the shooting.
“Taymor McIntyre is not guilty of capital murder, murder, or manslaughter, and the reason for that is very simple.
“You have to do it right. You have to do the work. And this case clearly demonstrates the work wasn’t done,” John Hunter, one of McIntyre’s attorneys, told jurors during closing arguments last week.
The jury found him not guilty of capital murder, which would have meant a life sentence without the chance of parole. They will now hear evidence in the trial’s punishment phase before deciding on a sentence.
