US President Donald Trump has confirmed that a deal for TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell the platform’s US business will be finalized before the April 5 deadline.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump stated:
“We have a lot of potential buyers, tremendous interest in TikTok, and I’d like to see TikTok remain alive.”
The April 5 deadline was set after Trump took office in January, requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok’s US operations to a non-Chinese buyer or face a ban over national security concerns.
Reports suggest that TikTok’s existing non-Chinese shareholders have emerged as the leading contenders to acquire the platform’s US business from ByteDance. However, further details on the deal’s structure remain unclear.
