EPL: Guardiola in tears as De Bruyne bids farewell to Man City

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, was visibly emotional and shed tears as Kevin De Bruyne bid farewell to the Etihad Stadium after playing his final match in front of the home supporters.

The club, once Premier League champions, has opted against extending De Bruyne’s contract, which is due to run out this summer.

As a result, the 33-year-old will depart on a free transfer after spending ten years with the team, during which he secured six Premier League titles and a Champions League win.

De Bruyne couldn’t find the net in Tuesday night’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth, a result that moved City up to third in the table.

Following the game, the stadium lights dimmed as De Bruyne, joined by his wife Michele Lacroix and their three children – Mason, Rome, and Suri – stepped onto the pitch for a final farewell, with fans chanting his name.

His teammates and club officials formed a guard of honour as he walked to the centre of the field, amid a backdrop of fireworks and dazzling lights.

When asked about his feelings, De Bruyne said: “Very emotional.”

Guardiola was later seen in tears as the Belgian star paused to gather himself.
