Lionel Messi, the Inter Miami star, has revealed what he considers the favourite goal of his illustrious career.
The 38-year-old chose the memorable header he scored for Barcelona against Manchester United in the 2009 UEFA Champions League final.
Messi, who has netted over 800 goals across spells with Argentina, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and now Inter Miami, explained: “I had many goals that are perhaps even more beautiful and of enormous value, also because of their importance, but the header in the Champions League final against Manchester United was always my favorite.”
That goal marked Barcelona’s second in a 2-0 win over United.
Messi rose above defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic to head the ball past goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar. The goal remains one of the most iconic moments in Champions League history.
It also secured him his first of three Champions League titles with the Spanish club.
