Popular Nigerian singer Small Doctor has voiced deep concern over the alarming rise in drug abuse among young Nigerians, especially in inner-city communities.
Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter), the street-pop artist shared an emotional reflection following a visit to his childhood neighbourhood, where he encountered a disturbing scene involving some of his peers.
“Wasiu Ayinde told me 6 years ago to establish a rehabilitation centre, stating it is the new oil. That man saw the future,” Small Doctor revealed in his post.
The singer expressed heartbreak at seeing once-promising young men he grew up with now engulfed by substance abuse, visibly impaired and sleeping while standing, with some even assuming bizarre postures in public.
“Most heartbreaking was when I arrived my hood, I saw some promising guys we grew up together sleeping while standing 🤦🏾♂️, some were even making some crazy postures while sleeping. So sad 😭,” he lamented.
His post has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians praising him for speaking out and calling for urgent interventions from both the government and private sector.
Small Doctor’s reflection highlights the growing need for mental health awareness and addiction rehabilitation programs across Nigeria, especially in underserved communities.
