The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over arch-rivals Ghana’s Black Stars on Wednesday night to book their place in the Unity Cup final in London.
Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a composed finish after a brilliant assist from Sodiq Ismail. Nigeria doubled their lead just five minutes later when Ghana’s Razak Simpson inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
The Eagles dominated the first half, preventing Ghana from registering a single shot on target.
Ghana came alive in the second half, and substitute Brandon Asante-Thomas gave them a lifeline in the 70th minute with a clinical strike. Despite late pressure from the Black Stars, Nigeria held firm to seal victory in the much-anticipated “Jollof Derby.”
With this win, Nigeria advances to the Unity Cup final, where they will face Jamaica on Saturday. The Reggae Boyz booked their spot with a thrilling 3–2 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.
