Xabi Alonso, manager of Bayer Leverkusen, has officially declared his departure from the Bundesliga team this upcoming summer.
The announcement was made at his press conference on Friday.
Rumors have linked the Spaniard to a move back to Real Madrid, where he previously played from 2009 to 2014.
After almost three years of success at B04, the 43-year-old is close to making a return to the Bernabeu.
“The club and I have agreed that these two last games will be my final ones as Bayer Leverkusen coach,” Xabi Alonso said.
Bild reports Alonso gave an emotional speech to his players in the dressing room.
However, he stopped short of confirming his move to Real Madrid, where he will replace Carlo Ancelotti.
