The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly committed to leading President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027, despite ongoing questions about his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) while still identifying as a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Monday, June 2, Wike made his stance clear:
“I have told you this before, is it because I am in Asiwaju’s presidency? Are you not aware I will lead his campaign in Rivers State? You want me to say no?” he stated.
Wike also addressed Tinubu’s underwhelming performance in the 2023 election in the FCT—where the president garnered less than 10 per cent of the vote—predicting a significant turnaround in 2027.
“Are you not aware that he did not get up to 10 per cent here, FCT? But he will win here. Are you not aware? Stop asking me questions you know. Of course, you know. Is that hidden?” he said.
Wike’s remarks signal a bold political shift, as he openly supports a sitting APC president while remaining officially aligned with the PDP.
