In the 1990s, she worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva, Switzerland, and later with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in various locations, including New York, Ethiopia, and Namibia.
