Chelsea opened their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup journey with a commanding 2-0 victory over LAFC in Atlanta, securing top spot in Group D ahead of their next match against Brazilian side Flamengo.
Pedro Neto opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort, beating his marker and firing past Hugo Lloris. Midfielder Enzo Fernandez sealed the win, converting a pinpoint cross from debutant Liam Delap, Chelsea’s recent £30 million signing.
The match featured tense moments, including a heated exchange between Neto and Denis Bouanga, which Reece James defused.
LAFC nearly responded through Bouanga and former Chelsea star Olivier Giroud, but goalkeeper Robert Sanchez stood firm.
Chelsea’s dominance leaves them in a prime position to reach the knockout stages, with their crucial showdown against Flamengo set for Friday.
