Former Romanian international Cristian Chivu has officially parted ways with Parma ahead of his anticipated appointment as the new head coach of Inter Milan, replacing Simone Inzaghi.
Chivu, who enjoyed a decorated playing career at Inter — winning three Serie A titles and the 2010 UEFA Champions League — is set to return to the club, this time on the sidelines. The former defender took to Instagram on Monday to express his gratitude to Parma:
“I thank the club, staff, players and fans for having believed in me and our project,” Chivu wrote. “Together we overcame obstacles and wrote a page (in Parma’s history) which will remain in my heart.”
Reports indicate Chivu has signed a two-year contract with Inter worth €2.5 million per season.
His appointment follows the departure of Simone Inzaghi, who was let go after Inter’s 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League finalI.
Inzaghi has since taken over managerial duties at Saudi club Al-Hilal, where he is preparing to lead the team in the FIFA Club World Cup kicking off next weekend.
Chivu’s return to the Nerazzurri marks a new chapter in his career, and fans will be eager to see whether he can replicate his on-field success in the dugout.
