Al Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has officially ruled out participation in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, set to kick off next Saturday in the United States.
The 40-year-old, whose current contract with Al Nassr expires at the end of June, revealed that while he received offers from some of the qualified teams, he has opted not to accept any of them.
“I will not be at the Club World Cup,” Ronaldo said during a media briefing ahead of Portugal’s Nations League final against Spain this Sunday in Munich.
“Some teams reached out to me. Some made sense and others did not, but you can’t try and do everything. You can’t catch every ball.”
FIFA president Gianni Infantino had previously hinted at the possibility of Ronaldo joining a participating team as a marquee presence for the newly expanded tournament.
However, Ronaldo appears to be stepping away from the event altogether, further clouding his club future, especially after posting the cryptic message “this chapter is over” following Al Nassr’s final league game of the season in May.
As speculation swirls around his next move, fans and pundits alike await news on where the iconic forward will play next—or whether he could be nearing the end of his legendary club career.
