“Don’t Rely on Talent Alone, Learn a Skill” – Illbliss Advises Upcoming Musicians

Veteran Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has advised aspiring artists to develop other income-generating skills besides music.

Reacting to a viral video of music executive Ayo Animashaun, where the entertainment mogul disclosed that only a handful of Nigerian artists are truly making money from music, Illbliss stressed the importance of having alternative sources of income to survive the industry’s uncertainties.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, Illbliss wrote:

“Dear Upcoming…. Little advise from IllBliss: Learn a skill or find a second and third hustle that will help you keep the lights on!”

His advice echoes Animashaun’s earlier statement:

“A lot of artists are not making money. You say artists are making money — you can’t count ten,” Animashaun said in the viral clip.

Illbliss, known for his business acumen and longevity in the Nigerian music industry, has often encouraged younger talents to build multiple streams of income to cushion the financial instability that many face in the entertainment scene.

His words have sparked conversations online, with many users agreeing that talent alone may not guarantee success in Nigeria’s unpredictable music industry.
