Nigerian rapper and singer Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has clarified his controversial statement on fornication, which recently sparked heated reactions across social media platforms.
The award-winning entertainer caused a stir after posting on X (formerly Twitter) that “fornication isn’t a sin.” The post quickly went viral, attracting backlash from both Christian and Muslim communities, who cited religious scriptures to challenge his view.
“I Practice the Religion of Love” — Falz
In a recent interview with Arise TV, Falz explained that his statement was misunderstood and not made from a traditional religious perspective. He revealed that he no longer identifies as a Christian, stating instead that he now practices what he calls the “religion of love.”
“I think people would read the tweet and just assume that I meant according to Christianity,” Falz said.
“I wasn’t really speaking from that perspective. I practice the religion of love. Under that religion, I don’t think fornication is a sin.”
The rapper emphasized that his views were based on personal reflection and not aligned with any specific doctrine. He questioned the rationale behind labeling consensual premarital sex between unmarried adults as sinful.
“Why are we not allowed to engage in this premarital intercourse? What is the issue? Who does it offend? These are two unmarried people. Willingly. Consensually. Personally, I don’t think there is a problem there.”
Reactions Across Social Media
Falz’s remarks have continued to fuel intense debate online, with many Nigerians divided over his stance. Some have applauded his candor and emphasis on personal freedom and consent, while others have criticized him for promoting views contrary to religious teachings.
Despite the controversy, Falz remains unapologetic, stating clearly that his belief system is rooted in love, mutual respect, and personal choice, rather than religious doctrine.
