FG Declares Wednesday September 27 Public Holiday

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, June 12, a public holiday in celebration of the 2025 Democracy Day.

The announcement was made in Abuja on Sunday via a statement from Mrs. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior.

According to Ajani, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo conveyed the message on behalf of the Federal Government, extending warm congratulations to Nigerians for sustaining 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.

“June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign and peace is sustained and our future assured,” the minister said.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic progress since 1999, Tunji-Ojo described the period as a testament to the country’s perseverance and renewed optimism.

“The last 26 years tells the story of our resilience, strength and courage and a hope Renewed than ever,” he added.

The minister also reaffirmed the Renewed Hope administration’s commitment — under President Bola Tinubu — to upholding the universal principles of democracy, emphasizing that the will of the people must remain central to determining Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural direction.
