In a significant political move, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu and the current Iyaloja General of Nigeria, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Lagos State Market Advisory Council.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu formally announced the appointment during the inauguration of the newly reconstituted council. The governor praised Tinubu-Ojo’s leadership abilities and her years of experience managing market affairs across the state.
Sanwo-Olu called on the council members to approach their roles with fairness, transparency, and a strong sense of responsibility, particularly in resolving market disputes and improving the day-to-day operations of the state’s bustling marketplaces.
While acknowledging the strides made in the sector, the governor admitted that more work was needed to ensure efficiency and safety in Lagos markets. He assured that the government would continue to provide the necessary support to improve the working environment for traders.
Speaking after her appointment, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo promised that the council would stay focused on its core responsibilities, including conflict resolution and maintaining cleanliness in all Lagos markets.
She also appealed to the government for additional support to enhance the council’s impact, saying, “We are committed to serving the interest of market men and women, and we will ensure Lagos markets remain safe, clean, and peaceful for all.”
This appointment further cements Tinubu-Ojo’s influence as a key figure in Lagos’ commerce sector, with expectations high that she will usher in positive reforms for traders across the state.
