Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has opened up about a memorable encounter with football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, revealing he once waited over an hour just to take a photo with the Portuguese superstar.
Osimhen shared the story during a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, recounting the events that took place after Napoli’s 1–0 victory over Juventus in February 2021.
“I said to him, ‘Chris [Cristiano Ronaldo], I’d like to take a picture with you.’ He said, ‘Yeah, come to the dressing room,’” Osimhen narrated.
The Nigerian international followed Ronaldo’s invitation, only to be intercepted by legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who offered to help.
“Buffon saw me, came to me, and asked what I wanted. He went to the gym and told me Ronaldo was working out, told me to sit with him. We were just talking, it was almost 30 minutes, he wasn’t out yet. I waited for one hour, he was still working out,” Osimhen recalled.
Eventually, the moment came. Osimhen described the awe he felt seeing Ronaldo up close.
“Look at the laps and the veins, you would think he was 25 years old at that time. He said, ‘Great game, just keep on going,’ and I shook his hand.”
While Ronaldo’s contract with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr is set to expire at the end of the month, reports suggest he’s likely to sign an extension. As for Osimhen, he remains undecided on his next move following the end of his loan spell with Galatasaray.
