Veteran South African actress Leleti Khumalo is basking in global glory after her powerful new film Don’t Give Up clinched the Golden Nymph Award at the 64th Monte-Carlo Television Festival — and she’s giving credit where it’s due.
The Sarafina! star took to Instagram to celebrate the emotional win, posting stunning moments from Monaco alongside a heartfelt message to her husband, who stood by her side throughout the milestone.
“To my darling husband, thank you for always being there for me and the precious memories. Monaco was extra special with you by my side,” she gushed.
Leleti’s film Don’t Give Up, directed by Darrell James Roodt and produced by industry heavyweight Anant Singh, was honoured in the Best Creation category at what’s often called the “Oscars of European television.” The glitzy ceremony was held at the Grimaldi Forum, with Monaco’s royal family — Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene — personally congratulating the South African team.
“And just like that, WE WON! Savele sabuya nayo indondo,” Leleti proudly wrote, sharing photos of the moment she accepted the award.
She also paid tribute to her close collaborators:
-
To Anant Singh: “An absolute honour to have accepted this award with my producer, someone who is always by my side in my career.”
-
To Darrell James Roodt: “Forever grateful to work with you. Thank you for always believing in me.”
Of course, Leleti didn’t forget the fashion moment either, dazzling in a custom gown by designer Gert-Johan Coetzee.
“You outdid yourself. The most perfect dress to receive the most perfect award.”
Leleti’s win is not just a personal victory, but a moment of pride for South African cinema on the world stage. And while the spotlight shined brightly on her, the actress made it clear — behind every powerful woman is a love that lifts her higher.
