Liverpool, June 21, 2025 – Liverpool FC have confirmed the signing of German midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a club-record transfer deal worth up to £116 million.
The 22-year-old star has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2030. The agreement includes a £100 million guaranteed fee, plus £16 million in potential performance-related add-ons.
Wirtz arrives after a stellar 2024/25 season with Leverkusen, where he scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists across all competitions, playing a key role in their Bundesliga-winning campaign. A mainstay in the German national team, Wirtz has already earned 31 international caps.
This landmark signing signals Liverpool’s ambition under new head coach Arne Slot, who has overseen an active summer transfer window. Wirtz joins former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, along with Milos Kerkez and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, as the club rebuilds for the upcoming Premier League season.
Wirtz now becomes Liverpool’s most expensive signing ever, surpassing the £85 million fee paid for Darwin Núñez in 2022.
