Manchester United have reportedly decided to retain Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee, paving the way for Rasmus Hojlund to depart this summer, according to multiple reports from Italy.
The Red Devils, now under the guidance of newly-appointed manager Ruben Amorim, are focused on reshaping the squad into a leaner and more efficient unit ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
As part of this rebuild, United are said to have prioritized Zirkzee, who joined the club last season in a £36.5 million move.
Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund, who signed a high-profile £72 million deal from Atalanta, has struggled to live up to expectations at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old Danish striker is now a prime target for Serie A champions Inter Milan, who are pushing aggressively to secure his services.
Reports indicate that Inter are advancing “at full speed,” with negotiations taking place in both Milan and remotely from the United States, where the club is currently participating in the FIFA Club World Cup.
United are reportedly holding out for a permanent transfer fee of £34m–£38m, while Inter are proposing a loan deal with an obligation to buy in 2026—a structure United have yet to approve.
Hojlund, who remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028, is reportedly open to a move back to Italy, where he first established his name with Atalanta.
In the meantime, United continues to search for a marquee striker, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen emerging as their top priority after a failed attempt to land Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.
