In a significant political shift, former Vice President Namadi Sambo has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sambo, who served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 2010 to 2015 under former President Goodluck Jonathan, ended years of loyalty to the PDP with his latest move. Before his elevation to the nation’s second-highest office, he was the Governor of Kaduna State from 2007 to 2010.
The former Vice President was recently spotted alongside Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, a key APC figure, sparking speculation about his potential switch to the ruling party.
His defection marks yet another blow to the PDP, which has seen several top members cross over to the APC in recent months as political realignments gather pace ahead of the next general elections.
Political analysts view Sambo’s move as a strategic development that could influence northern political calculations, particularly in Kaduna and the broader region.
Neither Sambo nor the APC has issued an official statement detailing the reasons behind his defection as of the time of this report.
