The Federal Government has dismissed reports alleging that the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran has ceased operations and abandoned its citizens amid the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.
In a statement released Saturday by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, through ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, the government clarified that the embassy remains fully operational and committed to the safety of all Nigerians in Iran, despite the volatile security situation.
“The Embassy of Nigeria in Tehran remains operational and fully committed to the welfare and safety of all Nigerian nationals in Iran,” Tuggar stated.
He explained that while normal operations have shifted to remote work due to ongoing bombings in Tehran, plans are in motion for the possible evacuation of Nigerians through Armenia’s capital, Yerevan.
“The Embassy is actively engaging with the Government of Armenia to secure access for the evacuation of Nigerians via Yerevan,” the statement read.
The minister urged Nigerians in Tehran to contact the embassy’s emergency services for any assistance.
