Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo has spoken out strongly against President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration raids in her hometown of Los Angeles.
Olivia Rodrigo, whose paternal grandparents immigrated to the United States from the Philippines, took to her Instagram Stories to voice concern over the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, which have sparked widespread protests. The situation escalated after Trump reportedly deployed both the Marines and National Guard to control the unrest.
“I’ve lived in LA my whole life and I’m deeply upset about these violent deportations of my neighbors under the current administration,” Olivia Rodrigo wrote. “LA simply wouldn’t exist without immigrants.”
The Trump administration’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants has drawn sharp criticism, particularly in light of cases involving individuals allegedly targeted without due process. Rodrigo joined the chorus of voices condemning the raids, highlighting the impact on hardworking community members.
“Treating hardworking community members with such little respect, empathy, and due process is awful. I stand with the beautiful, diverse community of Los Angeles and with immigrants all across America. I stand for our right to freedom of speech and freedom to protest,” the “Vampire” singer added.
Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom also blasted President Trump for deploying military forces domestically. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Newsom wrote, “US Marines shouldn’t be deployed on American soil facing their own countrymen to fulfill the deranged fantasy of a dictatorial President.”
