Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has refuted suggestions that his estranged wife, Ireti Doyle, enjoys greater popularity than he does, asserting that he achieved fame long before her rise to stardom.
Speaking in a recent interview with The Muvmnt Studio, Doyle confidently stated that his reputation in Nigeria’s entertainment and media space is well-established and cannot be overshadowed by anyone.
“I have been popular since I was 16. How long has she been around? I was a superstar at 16—a champion debater. I debated against Yemi Osinbajo,” Doyle remarked.
He emphasized that his career spans over 45 years and added that his solid credentials in broadcasting and acting make him self-defined, not reliant on others for relevance.
Responding to why Ireti Doyle has retained his surname after their divorce in 2023, he said:
“Why is the name Doyle popular? Why didn’t she revert and change her name at the end of the marriage?”
Patrick Doyle married Iretiola Doyle after losing his first wife to sickle cell anemia in 1999. The couple officially announced their separation in 2023.
