In a dramatic turn of events, federal prosecutors in the high-profile trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs have dropped multiple charges just before closing arguments are set to begin.
According to a newly filed letter submitted to Judge Arun Subramanian, the prosecution has withdrawn its pursuit of key accusations, including:
-
Attempted kidnapping
-
Attempted arson (including the claim involving rapper Kid Cudi’s car)
-
Aiding and abetting sex trafficking
This means the jury will no longer consider allegations that Diddy set fire to Kid Cudi’s car or kidnapped anyone as part of the case.
While the move has caused a stir, prosecutors argue it’s a strategic decision to “streamline” the case and focus the jury’s attention on the core charges that remain:
-
Sex trafficking
-
Racketeering
-
Transportation to engage in prostitution
These charges form the heart of the federal case against Combs, who is accused of using his power, wealth, and staff to commit and conceal a range of serious crimes — from bribery and drug abuse to physical violence and exploitation.
Despite the dropped charges, the prosecution is pressing forward with claims that Diddy led a criminal enterprise, enabled by his inner circle, to recruit, exploit, and silence victims.
With closing arguments looming, all eyes are now on the courtroom as both sides prepare to make their final case. The jury will deliberate soon after, and a verdict could come within days.
