Coalition: He doesn’t keep his promises – Reno Omokri Warns North Against Backing Peter Obi

2023 Election: HOW PETER OBI AND HIS OBEDIENTs supporters successfully disrupted Nigerian politics – Omokri admits

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has cautioned Northern political leaders against supporting former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the flag bearer of any proposed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Omokri, in a series of posts on X, claimed that Obi would not honour any agreement made with Northern leaders, including a potential one-term presidency pledge. His comments came in response to Obi’s recent statement, where the former Anambra governor said he would be willing to serve only one term and hand over to the North, if such a coalition agreement were reached.

Obi also clarified that he had no existing agreement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on a joint ticket.

Omokri warned that Northern Nigeria could face a betrayal similar to that experienced by the Hausa-Fulani in Cameroon after the resignation of Ahmadou Ahidjo in 1982, when Paul Biya took over and allegedly failed to uphold promises made to the North.

“If Arewa makes the mistake of backing the coalition and giving their Presidential ticket to Peter Obi, exactly what happened to Northern Cameroon after Ahmadou Ahidjo resigned on November 4, 1982, is what will happen to Northern Nigeria. Go back and study history,” he wrote.

“The Hausa and Fulani are the most marginalised ethnicities in Cameroon, and Paul Biya kept none of the promises he made to Ahidjo.”

Omokri also referenced the killing of APC chieftain Ahmed Gulak in Owerri and the ongoing sit-at-home orders in the Southeast, questioning why Obi has never openly condemned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) or their activities.

“Mutanen Arewa may recall that in the most Islamic state of Nigeria, the seat of the Caliphate, Peter Obi named Ifeanyi Ezeagu as the state coordinator of his campaign for Sokoto. He also named John Ezeigbe the coordinator for Lagos state.”

He added;

“And this is the man telling you to give him power, and he will do only one term? A man who could not keep a promise to Ojukwu will now stay true to his pledge to Arewa? Believe that, and prepare for the Cameroon treatment.”

Despite his criticism of Obi, Omokri expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling him a true friend of the North. He praised Tinubu for his loyalty during the 2023 elections, saying the region had no better ally in the South.
