2027: Shehu Sani Urges Northern Support for President Tinubu, Better Than Past Leaders

Shehu Sani

Former Senator and human rights activist Shehu Sani has thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging Northerners to rally behind the president due to what he described as tangible progress made under his leadership.

Speaking to journalists on Monday in Kaduna, Sani emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated greater competence than previous governments from the North.

“Tinubu Has Done Well — Northerners Should Not Be Misled”

Sani called on the North not to allow itself to be manipulated by political elements who failed to deliver when they were in power.

“For those of us from this part of the country, we appreciate the progress made so far by this present government. Those who had the opportunity to do better and failed should apologise to the North for their failures,” he stated.

He accused some past leaders of prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of the people and warned Northerners not to be incited against a government that has demonstrated goodwill.

“They had the chance to turn the North into paradise but left it in a state of despair. Now they’re upset simply because they’ve been excluded from government,” he added.

Tinubu Supported the North — Now the North Should Reciprocate

Sani reminded Nigerians that President Tinubu had previously supported the Northern leadership and deserved their support in return.

“President Tinubu supported Northern leadership for eight years. It is only fair that we acknowledge his commitment and avoid being used as tools by selfish politicians.”

Nigeria Must Learn from Its Past

In his closing remarks, the ex-lawmaker emphasized national unity and warned against actions that could destabilize the country.

“Nigeria has gone through horrible and terrible experiences. We must learn from our history and not allow personal grievances to endanger national unity. Everyone has the right to speak, but let it not be in a way that sets the country on fire.”
