Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as Mama G, has addressed a viral accusation made by a widow and her daughter, who alleged that the 66-year-old star forcefully took over land belonging to their late husband and father.
The emotional claim surfaced in a video that quickly went viral, sparking outrage and sympathy from Nigerians across social media.
In the clip, the women accused the Everybody Loves Jenifa actress of land grabbing, claiming she left them landless and devastated.
However, in a detailed statement posted on her Instagram page on Tuesday, Patience Ozokwo firmly denied the allegation, stating she legally purchased the land 15 years ago, back in 2010.
“In 2010 – 15 years ago, I bought a piece of land. The land owner was aware of the sale. In fact, she was the one who approached my agent to help her find a buyer,” she wrote.
According to Patience, the same seller allegedly resold a portion of the already-sold land to someone else in 2023, without informing her. Upon learning of this development, she swiftly fenced off the land to protect her legal rights.
That move, she explained, triggered the current wave of backlash.
“This is blackmail, fraud and malicious intent. I am marvelled that they could viciously lie and castigate me for their own selfish intent,” Patience wrote. “They are using my name to trend and get pity from people.”
The acclaimed actress also revealed that unsuspecting Nigerians had started donating money to the accusers and showering her with insults, unaware of the full story.
“I see that their plans are working because some people are donating to them and calling me unprintable names.”
Calling out bloggers who rushed to publish the story without fact-checking, Patience announced that she is pursuing legal action to clear her name.
“As social media is not a court, I am pursuing legal means to vindicate my name because it took years to build and is my source of livelihood… Now I say to you: Meet me in court.”
She also took a moment to thank her fans and colleagues who have reached out during this difficult time.
“Thank you to everyone who reached out to me on this incident. I appreciate you all.”
Patience Ozokwo remains one of the most celebrated figures in Nollywood, widely respected for her iconic roles and decades-long contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
