Newcastle United have reached a full agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign Swedish winger Anthony Elanga in a deal worth up to £55 million, including performance-related bonuses.
The 23-year-old, who was a key figure for Forest during the 2024/25 Premier League season, is expected to undergo a medical within the next 48 hours before penning a five-year contract at St James’ Park.
Elanga Boosts Newcastle’s Attack
Elanga featured in all 38 league matches for Forest last season, contributing 17 goals and assists combined and playing a pivotal role in the club’s seventh-place finish and Europa Conference League qualification.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Newcastle’s improved £52 million bid plus add-ons convinced Forest to sell after rejecting an earlier £45 million offer.
The Athletic also confirmed that Elanga has agreed personal terms and will join up with the Newcastle squad later this week.
Manchester United to Benefit
Elanga joined Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in 2023, and the Red Devils are now expected to profit from a sell-on clause included in the original transfer deal.
The move marks a significant statement of intent by Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, who had attempted to sign Elanga last summer but failed to reach an agreement.
The pacey winger’s arrival is set to add depth and flair to Newcastle’s attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
