Premier League giants Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Spanish defender Cristhian Mosquera from La Liga side Valencia.
The 21-year-old joins the Gunners on a long-term contract, with the transfer fee reported to be around €20 million, including performance-based add-ons. Mosquera will wear the number 3 shirt for the North London club.
Rising Star in European Football
Mosquera stood out in La Liga last season, logging over 6,300 minutes across two campaigns—the most by any player aged 21 or under in Europe’s top five leagues. His maturity on the ball, defensive intelligence, and ability to read the game earned him widespread praise and drew the attention of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Defensive Boost for Mikel Arteta
Capable of playing both centre-back and right-back, Mosquera brings much-needed versatility and depth to Arsenal’s backline. He will provide healthy competition for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, as Arteta looks to strengthen the team’s defensive options ahead of a demanding 2025/26 season.
Already in Pre-Season Camp
The Spanish-born defender has already linked up with the Arsenal squad in Singapore for their ongoing pre-season tour, where he is expected to begin integrating into the team swiftly. His Spanish roots and fluency in the language will likely help him connect quickly with fellow Spanish-speaking players, including Arteta.
What Mosquera Brings to Arsenal
-
Versatility: Comfortable in both central and wide defensive roles
-
Durability: Proven track record of staying fit and consistent across full seasons
-
High potential: At just 21, he has already built a strong reputation in top-flight football
Arsenal fans will be eager to see how Mosquera adapts to the Premier League as the Gunners continue building a squad capable of challenging for major silverware.
