Super Falcons icon Asisat Oshoala has firmly denied reports of her retirement from international football, reaffirming her dedication to the Nigerian national team following their dramatic 3-2 victory over Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking to reporters in Rabat after Nigeria clinched its record 10th WAFCON title, Oshoala addressed the swirling rumours:
“I don’t know where that came from but agenda must agend. I get it, but I’m not bothered. I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s what I’m focused on.”
Still a Key Player for the Super Falcons
Although the 30-year-old striker played a limited role in the tournament, she remained an integral part of the Super Falcons squad, making the final 23-player list for the competition.
Social media had been abuzz with speculation about her possible retirement during the tournament, but Oshoala has now made it clear that she has no intention of stepping away from national duties any time soon.
Message to Young Players: “Stay Ready”
Following the Super Falcons’ comeback win over host nation Morocco, Oshoala offered a heartfelt message to young players and fans:
“Don’t give up, keep fighting until the end. There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. If you believe — only if you believe. I always tell my girls, stay ready. Anytime you can get called on, and when you do, go out there and show yourselves.”

Oshoala made her debut for the Super Falcons in 2013 at just 18 years old and rose to fame at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, where she earned both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball, leading Nigeria to the final.
Since then, she has represented Nigeria in:

Three FIFA Women’s World Cups (2015, 2019, 2023)

Multiple WAFCON tournaments
-
The 2015 African Games
She has now won the WAFCON four times — in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024.
