Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has shared her excitement after meeting her longtime idol, Rihanna.
Speaking during an interview with ETalk TV, the “Rush” hitmaker described the moment as surreal, revealing that Rihanna not only knew who she was but is actually a fan of her music.
“She [Rihanna] is such an amazing person. To be honest, it still feels like a dream. I love her so much,” Ayra said.
“People always say, ‘never meet your idols’, but I’m so glad I met mine because she’s just an amazing person. And the fact that she loves my music; I’m my favourite artist’s favourite artist.”
Ayra Starr, who called Rihanna a role model and someone she deeply looks up to, said what touched her the most was discovering that her idol admires her artistry too.
“She’s such an amazing artist, an amazing woman, an amazing person in general—somebody to look up to. I know I chose a great role model,” she said. “When I get nervous around her, I try to make unnecessary jokes. I usually don’t know what to do with myself.”
Looking ahead, the Mavin Records singer says she’s hoping for a future collaboration with the Fenty Beauty boss.
