Barcelona sporting director Deco is continuing efforts to strengthen the squad this summer, with recent developments suggesting interest in a potential return for Xavi Simons.
According to SPORT journalist Carlos Monfort, Deco held a meeting earlier today in a Barcelona hotel with Ali Barat — a key figure in Simons’ inner circle — and the player’s brother, Faustino Simons. While Barat is not the Dutch international’s official agent, he wields significant influence over Simons’ career decisions.
The 45-minute meeting, which was exploratory in nature, revolved around the possibility of bringing Simons back to Camp Nou. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, currently on loan at RB Leipzig from PSG, spent nearly a decade at La Masia and has long expressed a desire to return to the Catalan club.
However, a deal appears unlikely this summer. Simons’ €70 million market valuation and Barcelona’s ongoing financial constraints make the move nearly impossible at present, especially given new manager Hansi Flick’s concerns over an already crowded midfield.
Though Simons has reportedly received offers from Premier League clubs, his dream remains a return to Barcelona.
For now, Deco’s meeting serves more as a show of continued interest than any imminent transfer development.
