Bayern Munich has completed the signing of Colombian winger Luis Díaz from Liverpool in a blockbuster deal worth up to €75 million ($86.5 million), making him the third-most expensive signing in the German club’s history.
The 28-year-old has signed a contract until 2029 and joins Bayern after a trophy-laden spell at Anfield, where he helped the Reds win the Premier League, FA Cup, and two Carabao Cups.
“In Luis Díaz, we have succeeded in bringing in one of the best left-wingers in the Premier League,” said Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “He brings real player character from Liverpool to FC Bayern — he’s won silverware with every one of his clubs to date.”
Díaz expressed his excitement at joining the Bundesliga giants, stating:
“It means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern. They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to help my new team with my way of playing football and my character. My goal is to win every possible title.”
On social media, he paid tribute to Liverpool fans and the club, writing that he would “treasure forever” his time at Anfield and was “leaving proud of everything we achieved together.”
Díaz had a strong 2023/24 campaign with Liverpool, registering 17 goals and eight assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. His 13 Premier League goals ranked second in the squad behind Mohamed Salah.
His arrival comes at a crucial time for Bayern, who are facing an injury crisis in attack and preparing for life without veterans Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané. Díaz is expected to make an immediate impact under new head coach Vincent Kompany and could feature in Saturday’s friendly against Lyon.
He now becomes Bayern’s third-biggest signing of all time, behind only Harry Kane (€95M) and Lucas Hernandez (€80M).
