Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer Emoseh Khamofu, popularly known as Bloody Civilian, has revealed her biggest career regret — ignoring TikTok at the start of her music journey.
The fast-rising star took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her reflection, admitting that her decision was influenced by an overly “cool” attitude that cost her early momentum on the viral platform.
“My biggest regret was being too cool for TikTok at the beginning of my career. God punish steeze,” she wrote.
In recent years, TikTok has become one of the most powerful tools in music promotion globally, particularly in Nigeria. The app has launched and relaunched countless songs into virality.
One of the most iconic examples is CKay’s “Love Nwantiti,” which found renewed global success in 2021 after TikTok users turned it into a dance trend, years after its initial release in 2019.
Similarly, Skales’ 2015 track “Shake Body” recently experienced a streaming resurgence after Barcelona FC star Lamine Yamal danced to the song in a TikTok video that quickly went viral.
Emerging artists like Chella have also capitalized on TikTok’s reach, with viral hits such as “My Darling,” “Nyash Na Nyash,” and “Iweriwe Love” amassing millions of views and pushing him to mainstream recognition.
While Bloody Civilian has already garnered acclaim for her talent and unique sound, her candid admission highlights how crucial timing and platform adoption can be in the digital music era.
