A long-awaited sequel to the 1995 military thriller Crimson Tide is officially in the pipeline, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer has his sights set on bringing back Denzel Washington to reprise his iconic role.
In a recent interview on The Rich Eisen Show, Bruckheimer revealed that Washington is open to returning as Lieutenant Commander Ronald “Ron” Hunter, but with one major condition:
“If we give him a good script, I think he’d do it,” Bruckheimer said.
The original Crimson Tide, directed by Tony Scott, followed the high-stakes conflict aboard a U.S. nuclear submarine during a global crisis, pitting Washington’s character against Captain Frank Ramsey, played by the late Gene Hackman.
A New Era, New Creators
While the original film became a genre classic, the sequel will feature a completely new creative team. Tony Scott tragically passed away in 2012, and screenwriter Robert Towne died in 2024. Gene Hackman also passed earlier this year at age 95.
Despite these losses, the legacy of Crimson Tide endures — and Bruckheimer seems determined to revive it with a fresh narrative and top-tier talent. Casting for new roles remains under wraps, but fans are already speculating about who could join the Oscar-winning Washington in the high-tension sequel.
What’s Next for Bruckheimer?
The Crimson Tide sequel is just one of several high-profile projects Bruckheimer has on deck. He’s also producing Top Gun 3 and a new Days of Thunder installment, continuing his streak of revitalizing beloved action franchises.
No official production timeline or release date has been confirmed, but with Bruckheimer at the helm and Denzel Washington potentially onboard, anticipation is already building.
Stay tuned for casting news, plot developments, and exclusive updates as this submarine thriller resurfaces for a bold new chapter.
