Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has penned an emotional tribute to his late son, Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke, nearly three years after the toddler’s untimely death.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), the music icon wrote:
“Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke RIP LEGEND !!”
Ifeanyi tragically passed away on October 31, 2022, after drowning in a swimming pool at the family’s Banana Island residence in Lagos.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident, revealing that an autopsy conducted established drowning as the cause of death. At the time of the tragedy, Davido and his fiancée, Chioma Rowland, were reportedly not at home.
Authorities detained eight domestic workers for questioning, with two remaining under investigation to determine their level of responsibility in the unfortunate incident.
The loss of Ifeanyi sent shockwaves across the nation and the global entertainment scene, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences from fans, celebrities, and dignitaries alike. Figures such as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, rapper Bia, Meek Mill, and footballer Victor Moses publicly expressed sympathy and support for the grieving family.
In the aftermath, Davido took a prolonged break from public engagements before making a powerful comeback in 2023 with the release of his acclaimed album, “Timeless.”
Amid the sorrow, the couple found a new ray of hope as they welcomed twins in the United States later that same year — a joyful development that many viewed as a sign of divine restoration.
