Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has officially been admitted to the Nigerian Bar as a legal practitioner following his recent call to the bar.
On Friday, Melaye appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite at Court 8 of the Federal High Court, Abuja, dressed in a full lawyer’s robe and wig, symbolizing his new professional status.
The former lawmaker was called to the Bar last Thursday, an achievement he proudly shared with his followers on social media. Melaye posted photos from the ceremony, including one alongside fellow lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju, with the caption: “Done and dusted.”
In April 2025, Melaye announced that he had passed the Bar final examinations, expressing gratitude to God with the words: “Law school results are out. I made it to the largest bar in Africa. Who did it? God did it.”
Melaye studied law at Baze University, Abuja, after earning his first degree in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University.
While his team initially claimed he graduated as best law student at Baze University in 2021, later reports confirmed that he obtained a second-class lower degree.
With this milestone, Dino Melaye joins the small but growing list of former Nigerian lawmakers who have transitioned into the legal profession after holding public office.
