Doja Cat Opens Up About Her New Era: ‘Vie’ Will Be Pop-Driven, Honest, and Deeply Personal

Doja Cat Opens Up About Her New Era

Doja Cat is entering a bold new chapter — and she’s doing it on her own terms. In a candid interview with V Magazine, the genre-bending artist revealed fresh details about her upcoming album, Vie, which she describes as her most pop-driven and self-aware project yet.

“I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a Pop-driven project,” she said. “I know that I can make Pop music, and Pop is just that — it’s popular.”

While Doja has always been at ease across genres, Vie sees her leaning fully into catchy, radio-friendly sounds. But don’t mistake it for commercial chasing. She emphasized that the artistry behind the music — not the chart positions — is what truly matters to her now.

“What I want to avoid is that little monster that just wants success,” she explained. “I want to focus more on: how does the mix sound? Do I even need these instruments here? Do I need to recut this verse? It’s how things sound that makes the music worth listening to.”

She added that if Vie doesn’t match the commercial success of her previous albums, she’s okay with that. “I want to embrace that.”

A Retro Soundtrack to Modern Emotions

Sonically, Vie will carry a retro aesthetic, while lyrically it tackles deeply human themes: love, sex, messy romance, and the often chaotic relationship we have with ourselves.

“The concept is very pointed towards love, romance, and sex — and discourse in relationships. Really just relationships in general, and relationships with yourself, even.”

Doja also addressed the current cultural wave of breakup anthems and anti-romance sentiment.

“I think right now, you hear a lot of songs about breakups, and how we’re just kind of sick of men,” she said with a laugh — but Vie seems poised to offer something more nuanced and introspective.

A New Chapter, A Clearer Voice

With Vie, Doja Cat isn’t just delivering another hit album — she’s offering a more thoughtful, finely tuned version of herself. It’s not about chasing virality or streaming records. It’s about crafting something real, resonant, and rooted in who she is right now.

And for fans eager to see Doja evolve — both musically and personally — Vie sounds like it’ll be worth the wait.
