Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has expressed surprise over the presence of Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, in the newly formed coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The coalition, made up of prominent political figures from various backgrounds, has its sights set on unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Speaking in an interview on Arise News, Bode George called on all those who left the PDP to return to the party, stressing that unity is essential if the opposition hopes to succeed against the ruling party.
“Those people who are there [in the ADC], they benefited from this party. Do you disown your father’s house? What are you looking for if not for personal reasons? Self-centredness, selfishness… And when I saw Obi there, I was wondering what he was doing there,” he said.
Bode George emphasized that although the PDP had internal disputes in the past—particularly about INEC-related documentation—those issues have since been resolved. He expressed confidence in the PDP’s capacity to win in 2027 if party members remain united.
“We were in crisis for quite a while because of the issue of who will sign to INEC, but we’ve been able to resolve that,” he stated. “The voice of the people is the voice of God. I have no qualms in my mind about PDP not being able to do it.”
The PDP chieftain appealed to Obi and other members of the ADC coalition—many of whom he noted have deep PDP roots—to return to the party and consolidate efforts to defeat Tinubu.
“You want to kick Bola out in 2027 and you want to divide the house?” Bode George questioned.
Other influential members of the coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, among others.
As the 2027 political landscape begins to take shape, Bode George’s comments highlight the growing tension between unity and fragmentation within Nigeria’s opposition ranks.
